I am the President and Founder of Great River Financial. Prior to becoming an advisor in 2007, I spent 9 years combined in software development and corporate finance. I serve clients as the Lead Financial Planner and Investment Manager for Great River Financial. I also teach as an adjunct instructor at Minnesota State University in Edina, MN where I help other Financial Advisors pursue the CFP® Designation.

I am from Wall, South Dakota. My wife Amy and I moved to the Twin Cities in 1999 and live in Eden Prairie with our three children and rescue dog. I enjoy being active and love traveling, hiking, running, and am a veracious listener of non-fiction audiobooks. I dive deep into multiple complex subjects to seek wisdom about living a meaningful and happy life and share this wisdom with others to help them pursue the same.

I am a financial planner at Great River Financial. My journey into the world of financial planning began in a family of business owners, where finances were an everyday conversation, and I started working from a young age. Observing my family navigate the complexities of their businesses and personal finances fueled my passion to help others do the same. As my career progressed, I delved into comprehensive financial planning and pursued the education and credentials needed to assist people with various financial challenges. Working with diverse clients over the years has been incredibly rewarding, as each interaction taught me something new and enriched my understanding of this dynamic field. The best part of my profession is the constant evolution, as each new client and situation presents an opportunity to deepen my expertise and find innovative solutions.

My qualifications include a degree in journalism, but my curiosity for financial knowledge led me to achieve the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation and a master’s degree in Financial Planning. Additionally, I’ve earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) designations. Although these certifications provided a solid technical foundation, I firmly believe that my most valuable lessons came from working directly with clients, understanding their unique needs, and crafting personalized financial strategies.

Outside the realm of finance, my family and I embarked on an adventure by moving from the Midwest to the East Coast in 2019, creating beautiful memories along the way. However, we eventually returned to Minnesota, where we now reside close to our extended family. Our home is nestled on a lovely plot of land, complete with gardens and a flock of lively chickens. The adventure continues as my kids, Jean and Malcolm, are campaigning for alpacas to join the family. Embracing the outdoors, we love exploring nature and immersing ourselves in the vibrant arts and culture scene of the Twin Cities (except for those frigid January days!).

I’m passionate about empowering individuals to achieve financial security and enjoy life to the fullest. Each day presents a new opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive impact on the lives of those I serve.
